Many people have an extreme level of knowledge in technical and non-technical aspects, but still, it has been observed that they are jobless. They give many interviews but can not clear them. Interviews are mainly conducted to ascertain the amount of knowledge an individual has in a particular area or what kind of expertise he or she has. The interview is a two-way process, one who gets evaluated and the other who assesses to see if there is a “fit.”

Most people give interviews for a new job role and for changing the existing job roles or designation. In colleges, students get sound knowledge of technical skills, and parallelly they work on soft skills too which helps them in facing an interview and get a job in their dream companies. Many times mock interviews are also conducted in colleges during the final year for the placement of students so that students clear the interviews with full confidence. But it has been observed that many students get nervous during the actual interview in front of an interviewer. Ever noticed why this happens? What is the reason that an individual faces a lack of confidence and can’t form an authentic connection with the interviewer and helpless in answering the queries or questions asked by them?

It has been noted that many students are not well prepared and they lack information about the company, they are weak in certain aspects of technical knowledge, and they lack commercial awareness about the industry. So what are the key skills required for successful interviews? How one can confidently prove that he or she is the best fit for a role?

Let us discuss one by one the interview skills which one can prepare and practice before facing an interview.

  • Background Research of Company:

Whenever you are going to sit in an interview or apply for the job role in a company first and foremost step is to do complete research about the company. Such research contains the company’s existence, their dealing in that particular sector, market position, and the expectation of the company for the designation on which you are going to give an interview. One can get all information by visiting the companies website and also searching on social media via LinkedIn and other platforms. Such pre homework about the background of the company helps you in not only answering the questions but also leaves an impression on the mind of the interviewer about your personality.

  • Resume Writing:

Many students or professionals do this mistake where they don’t update their resumes as per the current working organization or institutions studying, which results in a bad impression in front of the interviewer. Your resume is the outlook of your professional work. It showcases all the achievements you got during your studies and employment. It must be noted that every time you go for an interview, take out time to update your resume. You should always share the latest resume with the interviewer of the company while applying for jobs or during campus placements too.

  • Speaking Skills

One should be polite and answering the questions very clearly and cohesively with calmness is expected by an employer or an interviewer during an interview. A day before the interview, relax and sleep on time which doesn’t make you look tired. During the interview make yourself comfortable and calm by taking deep breaths and also don’t answer too fast and too slow, listen to questions properly, and then answer them by following the modulation in your voice. While answering the questions be confident about what are you saying and not arrogant, because it leaves a huge impact on the decision of hiring you or not.

  • Introduction and Thank You

Candidates commit mistakes while introducing themselves, in saying sorry and thank you. Whenever you go for an interview, first introduce yourself properly. Don’t hesitate if you answer slightly wrong or you don’t know by mentioning sorry. Before leaving the cabin of the interviewer always greet him/her with a thank you, whether you are selected or not because it shows your nice nature towards others. It has been observed many a time that when a candidate is not so sound technically, he/she gets hired because of good etiquette and gestures that leave a great impression on the minds of the interviewer.

  • Punctuality

Always be on time. Even getting early before the scheduled time is good too. The first impression is the last impression so one should act on that. One should wear neat and clean clothes that depict the personality of an individual but if you are the one who takes time in choosing clothes and arriving late, so better get ready in advance like packing your bag, and planning your outfit.

An interview is both science and an art that requires practice. One should keep practicing the interview skills mentioned above.
